Dallas Moore Band “Hank to Thank” featuring Jody Payne – Live from Herzog Studios

“Hank to Thank”, made in partnership with Sol Records and the Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation, is a live recording featuring country artist Dallas Moore Band with special guest and guitar legend, Jody Payne, from Willie Nelson and family. It was created to help raise funds for the foundation and increase awareness of the Cincinnati area’s rich musical heritage, including the infamous Herzog Studios, and King Records as well as promote the talents of the region today. The Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation was co-founded by Patti Collins, wife of Bootsy Collins, and 5 other prominent local music advocates in 2007.

“Hank to Thank” was recorded live in front of a sold out studio audience on Aug 30 2010 in the original location of the Herzog Studios at 811 Race Street and now home of the Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation to commemorate the 61st Anniversary of Hank Williams legendary recording sessions with the Pleasant Valley Boys that yielded eight of Hank Williams biggest hits, including Love Sick Blues, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, and others. the Herzog space is the last standing structure where Hank Williams recorded professionally. In addition to Hank Williams, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, and early King Records artists also recorded at Herzog Studio. Herzog’s operation and practices were used as a model for the first Nashville recording studios like Castle.

Sol Records is proud to release this historic recording in the spirit of Bud Herzog and Herzog studios, and Syd Nathan and King Records. Independent and proud of it.

Dallas Moore isn’t by any means a new artist. He’s been writing, recording and performing his own brand of music for years. He’s become known for his high-energy stage shows and his deep love for fine Kentucky bourbon.

This year, the Dallas Moore Band has accomplished an amazing feat. The band recorded their first-ever music video with Jody Payne and the video has sat atop Yallwire.com’s Yallturnative music chart for 14 weeks and still counting. It’s also currently at #2 on Yallwire.com’s Top 100 and Country charts after holding the #1 spot for nine consecutive weeks.

Moore is enjoying the awesome ride, but he confesses that seeing his name on music charts above mainstream artists like George Strait is a sight he never thought he would see. The Dallas Moore Band is completely independent, just like they have been all along. Moore, who is always humble about his success, says it was a big accomplishment just to get the airplay.

There may not have been any way to predict just how huge the song would be, but he had an inkling that the song was special. “Seemed like it was a good hook,” Moore said, adding that people seem to gravitate to the song when he plays live. “I’ve noticed that’s the one everybody in the crowd knows.”

As soon as I heard it was confirmed, I knew I would be there and would write a review. April 2012, The Dallas Moore Band, in Bowling Green, Ky at the Spillway. It was a Thursday, Work was a conflict of schedule but I would Manage. Not to mention my poor girlfriend who had to deal with my drunk a** and drive me home (which ended up being 2am).  I interviewed Dallas and hung out with the band. They all proved to be  a group of home brewed, down to earth, good ole boys.

It was finally time for the band to take the stage. They opened with a Waylon cover, Waymore’s Blues. Followed by several original songs, which the audience danced,drinked, hooted and hollered their approval all the way through. The audience especially enjoyed the very personal song, As Good As It Gets. “If I had known I was gonna live this long, I would’ve taken better care of myself.” Several folks hollered “Amen brother” and clapped acknowledging how they could relate.

I checked my watch. At 9:50 pm central time, there was over 50 people at the Spillway Bar and Grill in Bowling Green, Ky. Later I spoke to owner Robert Baxter who said, “The Dallas Moore Band drawled the biggest audience we’ve ever had on a Thursday night at the Spillway.” I sat there trying to be professional and not get drunk.
